Separation

This past week has been interesting as Jason has been in California skiing and attending a conference and I have been home working. He seemed to have had a great time, but I’ll let him tell you about his trip. As for me, while I missed him I still had a good time with friends and family. He left the Friday after Valentine’s Day, and my aunt Kathy came for a visit that weekend. We had an excellent time spoiling ourselves with facials and pedicures, dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, shopping, and a cooking class. While it was a long weekend (President’s Day weekend), the weekend eventually did end and Kathy had to go back home. Normally when Jason is out of town I watch all kinds of movies that he won’t like and cook my favorite foods that he won’t eat and generally enjoy the alone time. But, this time was different. First, I am not really allowed to eat some of my favorite foods right now. :( Second, I had plans for just about every night he was gone (very unusual). Tuesday and Thursday night I went with my friend Laura to the hockey game. My guys lost the first game in overtime but won the second game very convincingly. I don’t normally go to two games a week (or even two games a month), but we bought tickets to the first game and then Laura scored free tickets to the second game. Woohoo!! Wednesday night I went to supperclub with a bunch of girlfriends (we get together once a month for dinner). It was an exhausting week, but I still had a great time. Friday night, while everyone else went out to do whatever it is people do on Friday nights, I just stayed home and recuperated. Jason came home Saturday night and while we both enjoyed our “alone” time, we are both glad he is home and everything is back to normal.

Today we assembled the crib, so soon we will post pictures of that along with the dots. We just need to put up the dots first. I planned to do so today, but we declared break time after the crib assembly as Jason still has jet lag, and well, I am still pregnant! Stay tuned.

Baby Room Is Painted

As Jenn mentioned in her 28-week progress report, we painted the one wall of the baby room a pale green, but we didn’t like it with the beige of the other walls. At the time, we were going to change the color of the green wall to better complement the other walls, but we decided to paint all the other walls instead. That is, we decided to paint the whole room. So, the project expanded from what was initially planned (as these things often do), but we like the way it turned out.

Here’s a picture.

We temporarily put up a few dots so you can get a feel for how it will look. We are going to let the paint dry a few more weeks before putting the dots up “for real”.

The other walls are now a much lighter beige than before. The whole room now has a lighter, brighter, happier feel.

Here is a picture from before we painted, for comparison.

28-Week Ultrasound

Here is the ultrasound of Baby from Jenn’s 28-week checkup.

This was taken on January 17, 2008. It’s taken me a few weeks to get around to putting it online. D’oh!

Labor and Birth Education

Jason and I completed our labor and birth education classes today. The course required us to attend two Saturday morning sessions, where each session was 4 hours long. I have to admit, I felt a bit better after the first class than I did after today’s class. Today’s class talked about epidurals, episiotomies, Cesarian sections, forceps deliveries, vacuum evacuation, etc. Interestingly, it seems that many people I know love epidurals, but nurses (like the one we met during our hospital tour and the one who taught the class) really “encourage” natural childbirth. Hmmm…. I really liked the class because I now feel more educated about the whole process. But I would have preferred a more equally distributed discussion on natural vs. epidural vs. other medications. For example, they showed us a brief video of three women giving birth without any pain medication. That is nice, but it is hardly representative of reality! As many of you know me well, it really isn’t productive to try to convince me to do something by saying the same thing over and over again without telling me the whole story. I just might interpret that as being pushy, and just for giggles, I might do the opposite out of spite. As this is a bit too important for such rash behavior, I will try to contain my knee-jerk reaction and make informed decisions about the whole thing…right after I talk to my doctor (who by the way, is an absolute gem — I just love her b/c she is really calm and nice, provides info, and is never pushy about anything).

After class, Jason and I went to do more fun things like take care of the crib (Thanks Dad & Val!), look at baby clothes (trying to pick out a take home outfit), and looking at lamps for the baby room (Pottery Barn Kids has some pretty cool stuff!). I know I have to think seriously about the labor stuff and make some decisions, but not today! After all that fun and some much needed Dairy Queen (gotta love the oreo blizzards), we went home and took a nap. The baby’s room is mostly planned, even if the implementation is nowhere near complete. Everything is on order though (except the valence).

Oh, and did I mention that my new car is on order too?? Apparently a four-door, standard transmission, Honda Civic Si in Fiji Blue Pearl is just never going to just magically appear on a lot, so we ordered one. It should arrive in a couple of weeks – I can’t wait!
