Mother’s Day

I had a fantastic Mother’s Day weekend! It started Thursday (what, you don’t start your Mother’s Day weekend super early??) when we went strawberry picking. B did a GREAT job picking a lot of wonderful strawberries. This is the first year where I have let her just pick, and with only a couple of exceptions, she picked some beautiful berries. It’s a good thing, too…M wasn’t exactly interested in letting me pick any berries. M had a great time carrying her bucket around and dropping strawberries into the bucket. I don’t have any pictures of M making a mess eating strawberries because she won’t eat them! Maybe some day…

The fun continued Friday afternoon when B’s pre-school class hosted a Mother’s Day Tea. My place setting:

After the kids sang a few songs they had prepared, we sat down to tea. Here are the sandwiches she made for us:

Saturday I we mostly just enjoyed the weather – it was a gorgeous weekend! We spent the morning hanging out at the Farmer’s Market and at the playground. Apparently all that fun in the sun wiped the girls out – they BOTH slept for 3.5+ hours. After naps, we went to dinner and sat outside, followed by some ice cream. M even decided holding B’s hand might be fun. B was very proud, and M just laughed and laughed. Precious memories…

Sunday morning we ventured out for brunch, and afterwards we spent more time outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.

We topped off the weekend with a baseball game. How many of you can say you attended a baseball game in May while sitting in the sun wearing jeans and a tshirt…and were comfortable?? Did I mention the weather was spectacular?? We had a great time. M particularly liked playing with and sitting in the seats.

15 Months!

15-mth-pic.jpg

I know it seems like I am late with this post, but really I just wanted to wait until she had her 15 month checkup so I could post her stats. She is 30″ tall (25%) and 22.6 lbs (65%). As an interesting point of comparison, at 15 months B was 29.5″ (25%) and 21.8 lbs (which was considered to be 35% at that time). Apparently the charts have changed in 3 years – B’s weight at 15 months would now be considered a bit more than 50%. Strange… Anyway, she is not starving…

Speaking of food, our lil’ bit is quite picky. If she doesn’t like the look/smell of a food, she will just knock it off her tray. Forget actually sticking it in her mouth to try! At the same time, she can really put away the food she does like! Chik-fil-A chicken, Goldfish, fish sticks, Teddy Grahams, noodles, and yogurt puffs are all high favorites that she can and will eat a ton of. When it comes to the chicken or the fish sticks, she regularly eats more than B. She also likes smoothies (a new success!), pops, pizza, yogurt, “sauce” (baby food mixtures), milk, and avocado. She will occasionally eat a little broccoli or some yellow squash sauteed with some olive oil and salt. But truthfully, she gets most if not all of her fruits and veggies from smoothies and baby food pouches. While she will occasionally eat pieces of banana, in general she completely ignores fruit, including strawberries, cantelope, and grapes. Other than the broccoli and yellow squash, you can forget about veggies. As for meat, she is not interested. Even chicken – unless it is from Chick-fil-A, she pretty much ignores it. So, her protein mostly comes from yogurt and milk (she also will not eat cheese). Tia recently discovered that she likes fried egg whites, so we will also be adding that. So, to make a long story short, she eats plenty, but has very little variety.

Her mobility is getting better each day, which is a good thing considering she wants to climb – on the playground, on the stairs, everywhere! She is not very good at getting down, though, and she is still a little unsteady on all those steps, so I basically have to shadow her. She hasn’t really started running yet, but she is starting to consider it. She definitely moves quickly when someone says “eat?”, for example…

Her speech is improving tremendously. She has started putting together short sentences (ta gas peez = teddy grahams please, peez fih stih = please fish sticks, more peez). She signs and says please regularly, signs thank you, has started saying “BB,” “meows” whenever she sees a cat (and occasionally calls any cat ky kee (aka Sky Kitty)), moos whenever she sees a cow, and baaas whenever she sees a sheep. I am not completely sure of how many words she says, but a rough guess is probably in the 25 words range. While I am quite pleased with her language development, her language comprehension is quite impressive. We can give her multi-step instructions, and she follows them – e.g., “Please go get your shoes, and bring them to me.” Other examples include, “put your toy away and go get your shoes” and “grab your bear and go to the bathroom.” If you tell her it is time for jammies, she walks straight to our bedroom. If you tell her “let’s brush your teeth” she speed walks to our bathroom and impatiently demands her toothbrush…immediately!

“Bah” = ball is still a favorite activity. She will play it anywhere and everywhere.

She also loves to ride her rocking horse, ride her rocking tricycle, stack pretty much anything, “read” pretty much any book (but Peek-A-Who and her set of Mickey books are clear favorites), play instruments, and tag along behind B. She has started getting into coloring. While we don’t really let her have markers yet, she is a HUGE fan of grabbing the white board markers and walking around the house with one or two at a time. I have no idea why.

She still wakes up from time to time at night when she loses her bink (*sigh*), but she is getting better. We plan to move her in with B soon, so maybe that will help. Lately, she has had a nasty head cold, so that certainly isn’t helping, but she is getting better.

M is my sweet snuggler/mini tyrant. We are loving every minute!!
